Watch: Jim Parsons Reveals if There’s a ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Sequel Coming
Jim Parsons has hung up Sheldon Cooper’s lab coat for the last time.
After portraying the award-winning physicist on The Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019, the actor revealed he is unlikely to ever return to the role.
“I don’t believe I would do a reboot,” Jim said on the April 17 episode of The View. “I can’t say I miss him, partly because—especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor—there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.”
Even though the 53-year-old—who won four Emmy Awards for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Sheldon—has no plans to reprise the role, he recognizes the impact of the beloved character.
“There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was that I still carry with me,” he continued. “The longer it goes on, I’m more and more surprised when people approach me about it. Not because I’m stupid, but because I’m like, oh, it makes sense, but I’m just not thinking about it.”
The Titaníque actor added of the fan interaction, “It’s always really sweet.”
While Jim may be opposed to a reboot of the series—which spawned the two spinoff series Young Sheldon and George & Mandy’s First Marriage—his costar Kaley Cuocohas said she is “100 percent” down to reteam with Jim and their other castmates Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.

“I would absolutely reprise that role,” she told Peoplein October 2024. “I love that character, and I always will.”
In fact, she added of the Chuck Lorre show, “I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to Chuck Lorre.”
Plus, as Kaley put it, “It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
