    Watch: Why Will Forte Is the Perfect “Last Man on Earth”

    Will Forte’s marriage almost went out with a bang—or bangs. 

    The Four Seasonsstar recently shared that while he was away filming the Netflix series, he caused a pretty bad tiff with his wife Olivia Modling over her new haircut. 

    “I had been away for a while because she’s got to stay in L.A. with the kids,” Forte—dad to two daughters with Modling—explained during a June 3 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “So FaceTimesare a big point of connection, like they all count. So, I really stepped in it with one of them.”

    Indeed, the Saturday Night Live alum admitted a brief call with his wife while he was on set the Netflix show with costars Tina Fey, Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen, Marco Calvani and Kerri Kenney—and it almost turned catastrophic. 

    “I FaceTime her, she picks up the FaceTime and has freshly cut bangs,” Forte, 55, recalled. “She has never had bangs before since I’ve known her. Did not know she was getting bangs. No words were spoken until I said, ‘What happened to you?’ Not a great start.”

    But he didn’t realize he was quickly heading into dangerous territory. 

    “And then she said ‘What?’” the comedian continued. “And then I said, ‘Is that a wig?’ And look, in fairness to me, the way the bangs were presented, she was like hunched over a bit so it wasn’t like Brigitte Bardot bangs.”

    Indeed, Forte thought his wife of nearly five years was testing out a Star Trek Halloween costume. 

    “It was more like Spock,” he shared. “And it was also right around Halloween. So I was like, ‘Maybe she was going to dress as Spock for Halloween and it was a wig.’”

    While Forte quickly realized his flub, it was too late to fix. 

    “No words were spoken but it did not take long to figure out that it was not a wig and then I’m like, ‘How do I turn this in my head, how do I turn this around and make it seem like they’re beautiful,’” he recalled. “Then I kind of realized we were in the middle of rehearsal, and everyone was like, ‘What are you doing on your phone?’ So I go, ‘Oh I got to go.’”

    Naturally, Modling expressed that was not the way to end the call—or pick it up, for that matter. 

    “‘Is that a wig?’” Forte revealed she texted while he was rehearsing—in several separate messages for emphasis. “The worst possible thing to hear after cutting BANGS.”

    And though he responded laughing, Modling simply replied, “Divorce.” 

    Luckily, The Last Man on Earth star assured, “We got past it.”
