There were some competitive games under the lights on Friday night in Week 6 of the high school football season in the Greater Savannah area.
Benedictine went on the road and survived a shootout in a memorable Region 1-5A tilt against Richmond Academy in Augusta.

Savannah Country Day beat Bethesda Academy in the first ever meeting between the programs as the Hornets ended the Blazers 15-game winning streak.
Effingham County had two running backs run for more than 200 yards each as the Rebels scored more than 50 points for the second straight game in a win over Bradwell Institite.

Here are this week’s candidates.
The senior was 20 of 28 passing for 293 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 74 yards and two scores in a win at Richmond Academy.
The junior quarterback and defensive back had a big game in a win over Bethesda Academy. He was 9 of 17 passing for 238 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for 41 yards on nine carries. He had a pair of interceptions, returning one for a score, and five tackles as a defensive back.

The senior running back rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and caught a pass for 16 yards in a win over Bradwell Institute.
The senior won the individual title at the 5K at the Farm race with a time of 19:06.44 on the 3.1 mile course. She helped lead the Panthers to the team title and has won all four races she has competed in this season.
The standout senior, who has committed to Purdue, had 11 receptions for 141 yards and a score and rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown in the win at Richmond Academy.

The junior quarterback ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard scoring run, and was 12 of 23 passing for 98 yards with two interceptions in the loss to SCD.
The senior threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Islands.
The senior edge had five tackles, with four for losses and four sacks in a win over Rockdale County.
The sophomore receiver had four catches for 167 yards and a pair of scores in the win over Bethesda.

The junior ran for a career-high 209 yards and three scores on 31 carries in the win over Bradwell.
The senior rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and had three catches for 88 yards and a score in the loss to Effingham County.
The senior was 4 of 6 passing for 120 yards and a touchdown and ran for 51 yards in a win over Groves.
The senior rushed for 143 yards and three scores on 25 carries in a win over New Hampstead.
The senior rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries and had three receptions for 39 yards and had a pair of tackles in a loss to East Coweta.

The junior ran for a career-high 158 yards and a score in a loss to Beach.
The sophomore led South Effingham with 13 tackles in a loss to Grovetown.
