Michigan State football survived an upset scare in its season-opener to pick up Pat Fitzgerald’s first win as the new Spartans head coach.
Michigan State scored the final 11 points of the game to overcome a fourth quarter deficit and knock off Toledo on Friday night. After letting a double-digit lead slip away, Michigan State ended the game with a pair of scores to win by the final score of 30-20.

Following the win, Fitzgerald caught up with the media where he noted there was plenty for the Spartans to clean up in practice this upcoming week. But he was ultimately happy his team came away with the win to improve to 1-0 on the season.
