US President Donald Trump has held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid reported preparations in Washington for a possible resumption of military strikes against Iran.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing persons familiar with the conversation, the two leaders spoke on Sunday morning as the United States reportedly considered plans for renewed military action against Tehran.
The development comes amid growing uncertainty over Washington’s next move in its confrontation with Iran, with diplomatic efforts reportedly still being considered alongside military options.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier indicated that President Trump favours a diplomatic resolution to the Iranian conflict. However, he maintained that the United States possesses the military capabilities required to achieve its objectives should diplomatic efforts fail.
The reported conversation between Trump and Netanyahu is likely to draw further attention to the evolving US-Israel position on Iran, particularly as questions persist over whether Washington will pursue renewed military action or prioritise negotiations.
