Injuries, slow starts and underperforming stars have all played a role in the Red Sox’s woes this season. However, they are still only five games out of the wild card race with more than three months left to play. It will not be easy, but they have a slight chance. Trevor Story is on the injured list and provided one reason as to why the Red Sox have not lived up to expectations.
“Baseball is such a game of momentum,” Story told the Boston Herald’s Gabrielle Starr on Friday. “It feels like we’ve had zero momentum this year. A lot of really close games, and a lot of games that we came so close to winning.”
The lack of momentum is a huge factor for the Red Sox. Just when things start going right, something always seems to go wrong. Whether it’s an injury or a poor start, they just have not been able to get on a roll.
A change at manager certainluy did not help gain momentum. Chad Tracy was thrust into the manager’s role after Alex Cora was fired, and he is now tasked with turning things around to meet the high standards of baseball in Boston. All it takes is one streak to change a season and get the clubhouse to believe. Perhaps it’s right around the corner.
