The man suspected of shooting dead an Italian woman at a rave party in northern Switzerland is suffering from “psychological problems” and has remained silent in custody, prosecutors said Wednesday.
At a news conference, police told journalists that two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle had been found in the 43-year-old suspect’s car.
According to local media, shots were fired before 3:00 am (0100 GMT) near the Aarauer Rave, an annual techno party attended by some 3,500 people at the Aarau racetrack from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning.
“A 22-year-old woman died of her injuries at the scene. Four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital. They are suffering from injuries ranging from minor to serious,” local police announced on X.
Italy’s government said the killed woman was Italian, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni naming her as Maria Spinelli.
Italy’s foreign ministry said two other Italians were lightly injured in the shooting. Officials from its embassy in Switzerland went to the scene “to closely follow the investigation”, the ministry added.
All of the victims were Swiss residents, police said.
