LOS ANGELES (Travel + Leisure) — Tuesday, January 13, 2026
Forget jam-packed itineraries and sightseeing tours; the biggest travel trend of 2026 is doing absolutely nothing. “Sleep tourism” has become the industry’s fastest-growing sector, with luxury hotels worldwide launching dedicated programs to help guests catch up on rest.
Major hospitality brands are now offering “Sleep Suites” equipped with soundproofing, circadian rhythm lighting, and AI-powered mattresses that adjust temperature throughout the night. Resorts from Ibiza to the Maldives are hiring on-site “sleep doctors” to administer diagnostic tests and curate personalized recovery schedules.
“People are exhausted,” says travel consultant Sarah Ellis. “They don’t want a vacation they need a vacation from. They are willing to pay a premium for guaranteed, high-quality sleep.”
This shift aligns with the broader “Slow Fitness” movement also gaining traction this January, as wellness priorities shift from high-intensity performance to longevity, recovery, and nervous system regulation.
