    Nicolas Cage’s $10.5 Million Malibu Mansion Nearly Falls Into Sinkhole

    This is not Nicolas Cage’s dream scenario. 

    A sinkhole in the driveway of the Oscar winner’s oceanfront Malibu home caused a local emergency, with officials issuing evacuation orders for 31 nearby residences Sept. 8, according to multiple outlets. 

    While the majority of Cage’s residence has appeared to remain intact, the sinkhole has completely destroyed the surrounding property, including his front deck and driveway, which completely collapsed into the ground. 

    By the evening of Sept. 8, the sinkhole had grown to about 60 feet wide and 25 feet deep. The city of Los Angeles issued an emergency declaration that evening, highlighting the danger of the growing ground depression.  

    “Emergency personnel access is severely constrained and may be impassable, due to the large portion of the road that has collapsed,” the city wrote in the emergency declaration. “The intact portion of the roadway is too narrow to accommodate emergency response vehicles, including fire engines and other large apparatus, creating a substantial risk to public safety and emergency response capabilities.”

    Authorities said conditions around the sinkhole could likely worsen with the growing high tides caused by Tropical Storm Marie, which was downgraded from a hurricane Sept. 7. 

    E! News has reached out to reps for Cage regarding his home’s damage but has not yet heard back. 

    The National Treasure star—dad to August, 4, with wife Rikho Shibata as well as sons Weston, 35, and Kal-El, 20, from prior relationships—had purchased the Malibu property back in 2024 for $10.5 million, the seller confirmed to Realtor.com at the time.

    With an ocean-facing backyard, the 4,000 square-foot property also includes its own secluded beach as well as a roof deck, with four levels and floor-to-ceiling glass walls to maximize the views. 

    Cage’s home disaster comes a little over a year after several of his Hollywood peers faced massive devastation in a series of wildfires that swept across Southern California in January 2025. 

    At the time, Kate Hudson, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Paris Hilton were among the many whose homes were partially or fully destroyed in the blaze. 

    “I think that it’s something that you would never imagine you’d ever see in your lifetime,” Hudson admitted to E! News last February, just a month after losing her home, “or experience.”

    Nevertheless, the Running Point actress emphasized that she was heartened by the way her community supported one another amid the losses. 

    “People who live in Los Angeles, we love Los Angeles, and everyone’s just risen to the occasion,” she mused. “Now we just have to go through that, continue to support each other and rebuild.”
