Masked men shoot up occupied car at Spanish Banks: VPD

Two masked men shot up a parked car with people inside on Saturday afternoon at Spanish Banks.

Alert witnesses took the licence plate number of the grey SUV in which the suspects fled then called Vancouver police after the shooting shortly before 5 p.m. VPD Const. Darren Wong characterized it as a “targeted shooting.”

Soon after, officers spotted the suspects’ sedan and pulled it over near Fraser Street and East 49th Avenue. One man was arrested and is in custody, while the other has not been located.

It’s unclear how many people were in the car that was shot at because no one has come forward yet, Wong said.

The vehicle that was shot at has been recovered, but no victims have been located or identified, said Wong in a statement on Sunday.

“At this time, this appears to be a targeted, isolated event, and there is no perceived ongoing threat to the general public,” Wong said.

The VPD major crime section is leading the investigation and is asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the Spanish Banks area late Saturday afternoon to call 604-717-2500.
