United are winless in nine games across all competitions, the club’s worst winless run since 1985. In Europe, the Red Devils have lost two of their opening three league phase games.
United have not been far from the headlines in recent weeks, with criticism of the current squad and the club’s dramatic decline over the last decade.
Mainoo came through the academy ranks at Old Trafford and 21-year-old said he feels a responsibility to ensure new arrivals understand and restore the values of the club.
“United’s a huge club so I think a lot of people know the values that this club holds and have been passed down through the people who have worked here and have played here,” he said at a press conference.

“I feel I take some responsibility in that in spreading the word of what is Manchester United, coming up through the academy and I plan to send that message for hopefully as long as I can.”
Mainoo rediscovered his form under Carrick last season, after a difficult period under former manager Ruben Amorim. The midfielder said he wants to continue developing and become a central part of the side.
“I’ve tried to take on more responsibility in the team. I want to impose myself more in games and they’ve [Carrick and his staff] definitely helped me to do that, given me more responsibility with taking the ball.
“There have been ups and downs but I have to continue to try and have belief in myself and like I say, impose myself in games even in these tough times.”
