Watch: Katy Perry Briefly Trapped in Inflatable Plastic Bottle During Failed Crowd Surfing Attempt
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? How about a plastic bottle?
Katy Perry sure has. In fact, she was briefly trapped inside an inflatable plastic water bottle during her performance at the Isle of MTV Malta festival on July 22.
Indeed, the “Firework” singer was nearly the one that got away, as clips posted to social media showed her struggling to roll back toward the stage while crowd surfing in the prop.
“Go back to the stage!” the 41-year-old was heard pleading in one video. “Oh my God!”
Instead of taking her to a giant straw near the stage as she had intended, some excited festivalgoers had begun to carry her toward the back of the audience. Luckily, fans were able to bring this California gurl back to finish her performance of “I Kissed a Girl.”
As she’s gone through her festival run in Europe, Perry has been using a giant plastic water bottle emblazoned with the label “Katyade” to get up close and personal with her audience. Despite the occasional challenge, she said it’s her favorite part of the performance.
“I basically get in this giant inflatable water bottle and I roll it into the crowd,” she explained to the Isle of MTV Malta’s Instagram following her mishap. “And tonight I went kind of far and I was a little bit worried I was not gonna come back.”
And that’s not the only fun Perry—who is mom to Daisy Dove, 5, with ex Orlando Bloom—has been having on her tour. She has taken subtle digs at her exes while performing her 2020 hit “Never Really Over,” which is about revisiting a relationship with a former lover.

At the O Son do Camiño music festival in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, on June 18, Perry danced in front of a giant mock iPhone, rejecting calls from fake contacts referencing Diplo, John Mayer and Bloom.
The one call she did answer? Her current flame Justin Trudeau’s.
And that relationship seems to be going strong, as Perry recently opened up about how the former Canadian prime minister—who she began dating in the summer of 2025—gives her all the feels.
“I am very in love,” she said during the New York premiere of her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour on June 8, adding, “Actually that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that.”
