Watch: Does Shania Twain Have “Beef” With Brad Pitt? She Says…
Shania Twain has made it with husband Frédéric Thiébaud.
The country music star looked back at how far she and the Swiss businessman have come in their 15-year marriage, saying that he “would have been my lifelong love even from then” had she met him earlier in her career.
“This is the love I’m going to grow old with, and it’s a beautiful feeling,” Shania shared in an interview with People published July 30. “I’m sure we’ll always have romance, but there’s a depth and a gratitude that I have about having this love.”
The 60-year-old added, “It just takes sometimes years to find that person.”
Indeed, it took Twain quite some time to find who she describes as her “forever true love.” After all, the “Still the One” singer was married to music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange for 14 years before their 2008 breakup over his alleged affair with her close friend—and Frédéric’s first wife—Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
“It was a beautiful surprise to then see how gracefully and graciously he was dealing with navigating the same pain,” Shania told Armchair Expert in 2024, explaining how she “didn’t really know Fréd” until they had split with their respective partners. “He was so thoughtful about it.”
So, what’s her and Frédéric’s secret to a successful marriage?
“He’s really good at reminding both of us that we have to keep communication open,” she told People. “He’s the greatest talker, and he’s not inhibited at all with expressing his feelings, which is really wonderful in a man. If you have a man that is really open and wants to keep the communication open, you’re blessed as a woman.”

Shania started dating the former Nestlé executive in 2009. They tied the knot on New Year’s Day 2011, while Mutt—with whom Shania shares 24-year-old son Eja Lange—and Marie-Anne remained together.
“I think everyone gets what they deserve,” Shania told Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on their podcast. “I got what I deserve: I got the greatest man on the planet.”
That’s why the Grammy winner isn’t holding a grudge against her ex-husband.
“It’s very hard to hate or not be able to forgive somebody that you believe is a human being that deserves empathy and understanding,” Shania said in a 2024 episode of the Great Company With Jamie Laing podcast. “I think we all do. So, do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? No, it’s his mistake, not my mistake.”

Plus, she and Mutt, 77, will always put their son first.
“Mutt and I parent well together—for people who don’t talk to each other,” Shania explained during her Armchair Expert appearance. “We’ll just text. We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that.”
“We have the same priority, we share spaces for him,” she continued. “No nonsense there.”
