A Kano State High Court has ordered the remand of a lawyer, Barrister Dalhatu Shehu Usman, at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre until November 6, 2026, over allegations of fraud, forgery of receipts and failure to appear in court.
Justice Zuwaira Yusuf gave the order on Monday following the lawyer’s arraignment by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
During the proceedings, defence counsel, Barrister A.A. Sani, challenged the authority of the lawyers handling the prosecution, arguing that they were not legally empowered to prosecute the case.
He also asked the court to transfer his client to the correctional centre instead of returning him to the custody of the anti-corruption commission, where he had spent more than 10 days under a previous court order.
Justice Yusuf adjourned the case until Friday, November 6, for a ruling on the preliminary objection challenging the authority of the prosecution team.
The judge also ordered that Usman remain at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre pending the next hearing.
