Watch: Jerry O’Connell Poses With Wife Rebecca Romijn’s Ex John Stamos 2 Years After Public Feud
Jerry O’Connell didn’t want Giuliana Rancic to stand by him.
In fact, the Stand By Me actor ended his relationship with the former E! News anchor in the early aughts after she showed up unannounced at his home.
“I broke up with her through an intercom because Giuliana Rancic came to my condominium,” O’Connell said on the July 19 episode of Kelly Ripa’s SiriusXM show Let’s Talk Off Camera. “I was not expecting Giuliana Rancic to come to said condominium.”
The 52-year-old added, “I said, ‘I did not know you were coming. You can’t come up here. You can’t come here unannounced.’”
Besides being surprised by her appearance, the former host of The Talk admitted that he didn’t want Rancic coming up to his condo because he had another girl over.
As he put it, “I didn’t want any confrontation.”
Since the end of their tryst, Rancic released her 2016 memoir Going Off Script, in which she compared O’Connell’s handling of their breakup to “the customer service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight.”
But while O’Connell—who tied the knot with Rebecca Romijn in 2007—conceded that he was a “pretty terrible boyfriend,” he took pause with Rancic’s recollection of his intercom speech.
Indeed, the pop culture journalist—who married Bill Rancic in 2007—wrote in her memoir that he told her, “Nope, sorry home girl, things change, but you take care, OK?”
However, O’Connell said that might not have been the case.

“I don’t recall exact wording, so I can’t deny that I said that. It doesn’t sound like something I would say,” he shared. “I mean, if I was writing a memoir, it made for a good quote. I’m going to applaud Giuliana for using colorful dialogue and everything.”
Still, O’Connell knows that he and Rancic “broke up poorly” and that he should have been “clearer about how in trouble our relationship was.”
“Let me take this moment to apologize to Giuliana Rancic for being a terrible boyfriend,” he said. “I was just a bad boyfriend. I was just not a great boyfriend.”
