TOKYO (Reuters) — Japan Railways Group (JR Group) celebrated a historic milestone today with the successful full-speed test run of its new magnetic levitation (maglev) train on the extended Chuo Shinkansen line.
The train reached speeds of 603 km/h (375 mph) during the test. Officials confirmed that the line connecting Tokyo and Nagoya is on track for its partial public opening later this year.
“This is not just a train; it is the future of travel,” said Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito. The project aims to cut travel time between the two major cities by more than half, revolutionizing domestic transit.
