The Chairman of Hong Local Government Council of Adamawa State, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, has alerted authorities to the lingering attacks by insurgents on communities in the area.
Hong has in the last one year become the most affected local government area in Adamawa by insurgency, with attacks reported multiple times this month.
During a ceremony in Hong LGA headquarters to honour sons and daughters of the area who are in the military, the council chairman called for decisive steps to halt insurgency attacks.
“Our hearts are heavy because of the insecurity that burdens us,” Wa’aganda said, adding, “Many communities are displaced. This situation is particularly troubling as the farming season begins and farmers are afraid to return to their farmlands.”

He urged the military being honoured at the event to put their heads together, make the necessary contacts, and ensure the return of security to their fatherland.
The grand reception in honour of senior serving and retired military and para-military officers from Hong was organized by the paramount traditional institution in Hong LGA, the Huba Chiefdom.
In his speech, the paramount ruler, the Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako expressed gratitude to God for the galant military officers that the chiefdom is blessed with. He told the officers, “You have brought honour to us and we are proud of you. We appreciate your sacrifices and that’s why we choose to celebrate you.”
The Tol Huba expressed sadness, however, that his chiefdom has been attacked multiple times in recent months by Boko Haram elements, urging decisive steps by the federal government to halt the menace.
The grand reception which was held at the Hong Township Stadium, attracted prominent sons and daughters from all walks of life, including elder statesmen from the chiefdom, one of them being 82-year-old Major General Haldu Hananiya (rtd) who was the chairman of the occasions.
Speaking, Hananiya said the honour being bestowed on serving and retired military men and women, including those who died while serving the country, acts as tonic for greater national service.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri said the celebrants deserve honour for sacrificing their peace of mind and sometimes their life in service to Nigeria.
The governor who was represented by his Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Istifanus Babadoke, said Adamawa State is proud to have the servicemen and women who have brought honour to the state.
