Watch: Patrick Swayze’s Widow Lisa Niemi Swayze Gives Honest Reaction to Dirty Dancing Sequel
Lisa Niemi Swayze felt the magic when she devoured the Dirty Dancing sequel with hungry eyes.
“I actually got to read the script,” the choreographer—wed to the 1987 film’s star Patrick Swayze for 34 years until his 2009 death from pancreatic cancer—recently revealed to Us Weekly. “I was very moved by it.”
Specifically, she appreciated that the plot didn’t put Patrick’s Johnny Castle in the corner. “I’ll be very curious to see how it comes about,” the writer, 69, noted. “I wish [them] the best of luck. They’ve been working on it [for] quite a while.”
And she’s not the only one ready to have the time of her life.
“The role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart,” Jennifer Grey detailed in a January statement as Lionsgate announced she would reprise her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman, “as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years.”
While the 66-year-old has admittedly been curious about Baby’s next steps, she added, “It’s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film.”
Though she was clear that no one else could possibly fill Patrick’s jazz shoes.
Because when it comes to that iconic lift, “Patrick is the only one who really anyone should try it with, because he was just such a good ballet dancer,” the actress told E! News in 2024. “He was so used to lifting women and so strong. By the end of the movie, I trusted him so much.”
And she truly never felt like this before when he first boosted her up during filming.
“It was one of those game day things,” Jennifer explained of doing the first attempt for cameras. “I never rehearsed it. There was no room for a panic attack.”
And if you can’t get enough of secrets from the iconic drama, we’ll tell you something: This roundup could be love.
