Ferrari‘s driver academy has a well-worn pipeline into Haas, and according to German outlet AMuS, the Scuderia now believes Rafael Camara is ready to step up to Formula 1 for the 2027 season. Given how the Haas garage is shaping up right now, things aren’t looking good for Esteban Ocon.
Camara, the reigning Formula 3 champion and current Formula 2 rookie, has already taken a significant developmental leap after completing his first F1 test in the SF-25 at the Hungaroring.

He has also now accumulated enough points to qualify for an FIA super license, making him formally eligible for a race seat.
Ferrari clearly isn’t just ticking boxes. Completing that test is another sign that the Scuderia views him as a genuine long-term investment rather than a distant prospect. And the résumé adds credibility to the confidence.
Camara smashed the F3 series record with five pole positions in 2025, and his four race wins placed him joint-highest in the series’ history.
Now a Ferrari Driver Academy member racing in Formula 2 with Invicta Racing he’s following almost exactly the same development path Ferrari used to bring Oliver Bearman to the doorstep of the main team.

The reason Ferrari’s confidence in Camara is immediately relevant comes down to one contract expiry. Ocon is contracted to remain at Haas only until the end of the 2026 season.
That, on its own, would be manageable. The on-track situation makes it considerably harder to argue for a renewal. While Bearman is seventh in the standings having finished P5 in China, Ocon has managed just one point to his name.
He was already beaten by the rookie Bearman last season, and the team finished 8th in the constructors’ with 79 points.
Reports following the Miami Grand Prix suggested the working relationship between Ocon and team principal Ayao Komatsu had deteriorated, though both hit back at what Ocon called “fabricated” reports as he described the speculation as “complete nonsense.”

Speculation surrounding Ocon’s future keeps building, with growing paddock chatter suggesting his long-term position may be less secure than originally assumed.
Sources with good knowledge of the team’s thinking have told ESPN that Oliver Bearman is almost certain to stay with Haas in 2027, barring a seat opening at Ferrari itself.
That leaves one seat to play for, and Ferrari has the leverage to influence who fills it.
Bearman is the most obvious next-in-line for a Ferrari race seat, but Camara has positioned himself firmly as the top prospect outside of F1, and Ferrari has a strong track record of placing academy drivers in customer team seats.

Sliding Camara into Haas alongside Bearman would give Ferrari a two-driver grip on the American team’s lineup. And it’s great for development data, great for politics, and great for keeping one of its best young talents in competitive machinery while the main seats stay occupied.
None of this is confirmed, and Ocon still has a full season to change his points tally. But Ferrari has a candidate who is ready, a team that owes the Scuderia a favor or two, and a seat that may well be available. The pieces are lined up.
