    Dylan Sprouse Reveals Celeb Encounter That Made Him Quit Smoking

    Watch: Pregnant Barbara Palvin, Dylan Sprouse Reveal Sex of First Baby

    Dylan Sprouse had the suite-est experience with David Lynch. 

    In fact, the “legendary story” of how The Suite Life of Zack & Cody star and his wife BarbaraPalvin met the late Twin Peaks creator is the main reason Sprouse decided to give up smoking cigarettes. 

    “I’m at Chateau Marmont. Barbara and I are there with some friends, and we’re eating dinner,” Sprouse recalled on the Aug. 4 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. “Behind me, I hear a voice which I just know is David Lynch. I’m a massive David Lynch fan. I literally like froze.”

    Palvin confirmed to the 34-year-old that Lynch was indeed behind him, which left Sprouse at a loss for what to do. 

    “She was like, ‘Why don’t you just go up and say hi?’” he remembered. “And I was like, ‘No, no, no, no. I’m just gonna go have a cigarette.’”

    And it was that decision to have a cigarette that led to an encounter that was both wonderful and strange. 

    “I’m out there and I go to light up my cigarette—David Lynch walks into the smoking section,” Sprouse explained. “And he goes, ‘Excuse me, young man, do you happen to have a cigarette?’”

    The former child star was stunned as he quickly offered Lynch a cigarette and a light.

    “He goes, ‘Thank you very much.’ He walks over near the corner of the smoking section,” Sprouse continued. “Laura Dern walks in and sits down across from him. She goes, ‘Do you mind if I?’ And he goes, ‘Sure.’ And he pulls out of his pocket, fresh pack of cigarettes, hands her one. She’s like, ‘Can you light it for me?’ And he goes, ‘Yep.’ He lights her cigarette for her.”

    And as Lynch, who died in 2025, left the smoking area he turned to Sprouse and said, “‘I just want to tell you, you’re very polite. Thank you.’”

    Podcast host AmandaHirsh was surprised the meeting made him want to quit smoking, but as Sprouse explained it, “I’ll never have a better cigarette than that in my entire life.”
