Watch: Lions Player Jack Campbell Hospitalized With Neck Injury After Being Unable to Move on Field
Jack Campbell is still recovering.
Days after the Detroit Lions linebacker suffered a neck injury in his team’s match-up against the Minnesota Vikings Nov. 1, his coach Dan Campbell shared an update.
“It’s not easy because he’s going to always be on our minds over here,” Dan, who shares no relation to his player, said while phoning into the 97.1 The Ticket Radio Show Nov. 3. “The good news is he is improving.”
The NFL coach—who has been with the Lions for five seasons—also shared an update on his player during a press conference for his team Nov. 2.
“It’s positive,” he said at the time. “Your prayers are working. Please continue to do that. We’ll leave it at that, so continue to pray for him. But it is positive.”
Despite the Lions win against the Vikings 19-15 on Nov. 1, the team’s success was overshadowed by Jack’s terrifying injury, which occurred during the fourth quarter.
In footage from the game, Jack—who welcomed son Cooper with wife Megan Campbell in July—can be seen lying face down on the field, seemingly unable to move after tackling Vikings player T.J. Hockenson. The 26-year-old was quickly approached by medical personnel before being lifted off the field on a backboard.
Following the game, the Lions shared an update on the football player to X, writing in a post, “Jack Campbell is being transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury.”
As of the evening of Nov. 2, the University of Iowa alum remained hospitalized.
“Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital,” the Lions wrote in a separate post on their X account Nov. 2. “Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time.”

While addressing Jack’s injury, Dan emphasized the value the player—who has played for the team since he was drafted in 2023 and was tapped as captain earlier this year—brings to the team.“I don’t even know if I can put it into words,” Dan said during a press conference Nov. 2. “You get voted captain, that says a ton, especially with this group of guys that has been assembled. He earned every bit of that. He’s trustworthy, he’s dependable. He’d give you the shirt off his back. He’s just all heart, man. All effort.”
The 50-year-old emphasized that Jack is “an unbelievable person.”
“Down to Earth,” he continued. “Very genuine. There’s not a man on this team that doesn’t respect Jack Campbell and care about him.”
