Watch: Why Catherine Zeta-Jones Hasn’t Read Michael Douglas’ Memoir Yet
Shade or no shade, Cher loves Michael Douglas awful.
The Moonstruck star had a four word response to the Fatal Attraction actor’s recent dig at her 1988 Oscars win over his costar Glenn Close, with her rep telling Entertainment Weekly Nov. 3, “Cher adores Michael Douglas.”
Douglas aired his grievances over Close being snubbed at the Academy Awards, contending during an Oct. 30 appearance on The Graham Norton Show with his former castmate, “She should have won with Fatal Attraction.”
“Cher won that year,” the 82-year-old continued, prompting host Graham Norton to exclaim, “Oh, wow.”
Without missing a beat, Douglas dryly added, “I know, that’s what we all said.”
Not only did his candid comment leave Close visibly stunned, but it also caused fellow guests Kieran Culkin and Naomi Ackie to burst into laughter.
“Michael, be kind!” Norton playfully chided, as Ackie remarked, “The shade, mate!”
However, Douglas—who won Best Actor that year for Wall Street—didn’t back down. As he reasoned, “Glenn gave one of the greatest performances of all time.”
But fortunately for Douglas, his longtime friend is getting her flowers. After all, Close will be receiving an honorary Academy Award later this month for her decades-long body of work.

Acknowledging the prestigious honor, she quipped with a wry smile, “They probably don’t want to feel guilty anymore.”
And for the six-time Oscar nominee, filming Fatal Attraction—in which she starred as the scorned mistress of Douglas’ character—was a journey itself since she was reluctant to reshoot the movie’s now-iconic ending.

“They wanted me to come in with a knife. They wanted me to attack the wife. I said, ‘I’m not going to do that. She’s not a psychopath. She’s a pathetic, out-of-control woman,'” Close recounted on The Graham Norton Show. “I was in this meeting with Michael, Sherry Lansing and our other producer Stanley Jaffe, and said I literally said, ‘I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to f–king do it. How would you feel if somebody’s doing that to your character?'”
She added, “And Michael laid back and said, ‘Babe, I’m a wh–e.'”
