The Chilliwack-area waterpark reopened some attractions on Wednesday after a six-week closure.

The park said it conducted a comprehensive review of the facility to ensure the conditions that led to the June 15 incident — in which children ages 12 and 13 were sent to hospital, some with serious electrical burns — are not present elsewhere in the park.

“This site wide review of all electrical work and components includes verification of grounding and bonding, review of lighting installations, and metal railings and objects throughout the park,” it said in a July 23 statement.

The assessments also included natural gas and chemical systems, and equipment and operating procedures.

The park said areas will reopen only after receiving approval from Technical Safety B.C., WorkSafeBC and Fraser Health.

As of Friday, a map on the park’s website showed most of the attractions have reopened.

The Zero to 60 Raceway waterslide, where a metal railing in the queue area shocked 12 children, remains closed, along with the Boomerang, Bazooka Bowls, and Radical Rapids attractions. The park’s five hot tub areas also remain closed.

The park said inspections of the hot tubs will take additional time, and that its priority is to reopen the waterslide attractions first.
