The Washington Commanders are in an awkward position as a franchise heading into their bye week. Washington is 1-4-1 after six games and just can’t seem to get on track this season. To make matters worse, the Commanders have committed some truly unexcusable mistakes over their last two games that have taken the wind of the team’s sails.

It all started back in Week 5 when Washington carelessly wasted an overtime possession and ended up tying New York. After that, head coach Dan Quinn made a big error on fourth down against the 49ers on Monday Night Football.
At this point, it would be a miracle if Quinn is not fired by the end of the season. That would be a huge change for the organization, but a much-needed one. Remember, the Commanders have not had much success since their incredible 2024 playoff run. But in the NFL, that is absolutely ages ago.

Add Jayden Daniels’ injury history on top of that and the future is truly a mystery in Washington. As a result, it is a bit difficult to project how the team will approach the 2027 offseason. Still, it is fun to imagine what could happen in the spring.

Here is a way-too-early 2027 mock draft to entertain Commanders fans during their Week 7 bye week, courtesy of the PFF mock draft simulator.

This mock draft starts off with quite a surprising pick.
Knapp played left tackle for Notre Dame for two seasons before transitioning inside to guard in 2026. That was a great move for him, as he lacks the ideal size to play tackle in the NFL. However, he does have some tantalizing upside when playing on the inside.
Still, drafting Knapp within the first 10 picks of the 2027 NFL Draft is quite a reach for Washington. Especially considering how loaded this draft class looks at this point in the college football season.

In fairness, the Commanders only have Sam Cosmi, rookie Matt Gulbin, and Nick Allegretti as reliable guard options in 2027. On paper, it makes sense to add a high-upside guard like Knapp as an anchor for the team’s o-line moving forward.
Regardless, this pick feels pretty unrealistic for the Commanders.
Fortunately, the Commanders get back on track in the second round.
Wilson is an explosive edge rusher whose incredible burst, quickness, and bend help him zoom by offensive tackles. He projects as a dangerous pass rusher in the NFL and should be available in the second round.

The Commanders already invested heavily in Odafe Oweh in free agency this spring. Adding Wilson would give Washington a pair of solid edge defenders to build around for the future.
Wilson is not a great run defender, so he may start his NFL career as a pass rush specialist.
Washington adds another former Hurricane in the third round.
Moten is a disruptive three-technique who can create some serious chaos from the interior. That is a skill set that the Commanders are seriously lacking in 2026. If he is still available in the third round, this should be an easy decision for GM Adam Peters.

The Commanders will enter the 2027 offseason with Tim Settle, Javon Kinlaw, and Jer’Zhan Newton as their top defensive tackles. Washington could use an infusion of youth at the position. And if they retain Daronte Jones at defensive coordinator, he’ll probably want more interior defenders who can get after the quarterback.
One of the best picks so far in this mock draft.
This pick feels like Washington planning for the future.
Hubbard is a playmaker when playing close to the line of scrimmage. He projects as a box safety with slot flexibility at the NFL level. Hubbard is not a fully polished prospect, but he offers plenty of upside. Plus, he may not see the field much during his rookie season.

The Commanders should still rely on Nick Cross and Amik Robertson as starters in 2027. However, neither player is under contract in 2028. That could be when Hubbard starts gaining more snaps if he can translate his game to the professional level.
Excellent process pick by the Commanders here.

The best place to start with White is his knee.
White suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2025 while playing at West Virginia. That injury came just a few games into the season after he put up back-to-back 800-yards seasons in 2023 and 2024.
The speedy running back had knee surgery and then transferred to North Texas, reuniting with head coach Neal Brown.

White has looked great at North Texas so far in 2026. He already has 96 carries for 687 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. His 219-yard game against Tulsa was especially promising.
If he continues to play at a high level, he could earn late-round discussion from multiple NFL teams in the spring.
As for the Commanders, they will need depth behind Jacory Croskey-Meritt. If Washington does not select White, they will likely target a different late-round running back.
The Commanders grab another Fighting Irish offensive lineman.
Otting actually looked pretty good when stepping in for Ashton Craig during the 2025 season. He’s also shown flashes of success in 2026 when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, he has yet to start a game this season.

The lack of an adequate sample size means Otting may not be picked at all in the 2027 NFL Draft. But he has ideal size and some nice traits that could make the Commanders fall in love with him as a prospect.
If Washington doesn’t pick him here, he could be a priority undrafted free agent.
This pick has special teams ace written all over it.
Snow lacks the ideal size to succeed in the NFL. In fact, he is listed at 5-foot-8 and only 168 pounds. It is fair to question whether he even has the size to withstand the punishment associated with the NFL.

If he sticks in the NFL, it will be as a return specialist who can also contribute as a gunner on special teams. Perhaps he gets the occasional jet sweep or gadget play on offense, but he’ll have to earn it.
Either way, this is a solid use of a late-round pick.
