Wake up, friends, baseball starts early today!
After struggling to break through in the first game of the series, the bats came alive in the second game for the Colorado Rockies as they defeated the Cincinnati Reds 13-2 on Wednesday. Now, with the series split, the Rockies aim for their second straight series win to close out the road trip.

Michael Lorenzen (2-2, 5.97 ERA) takes the mound against his former team for the Rockies. Lorenzen has been a bit of a mixed bag through his first six starts, but has now strung together two solid outings. His last start was his best of the season thus far as he allowed just one run on seven hits over seven innings against the New York Mets. Lorenzen is at his best when getting ground balls, which was quite evident in that start as he induced 10 groundouts against five flyouts. He is quite familiar with Great American Ballpark, having made 147 appearances there, sporting a 3.90 ERA over 258.1 innings. That exposure has resulted in 33 career home runs allowed, which should be something to keep an eye on today.
Andrew Abbott (0-2, 6.59 ERA) makes the start for the Reds amid a rough patch. After solid outings in his first three starts, Abbott has been knocked around over his last three. Prone to giving up plenty of contact, Abbott has allowed at least four runs in each of the last three starts, including five against the Detroit Tigers last Friday. Abbott has also allowed five or more hits in each outing while walking at least two batters in all but one start. He isn’t going to overpower hitters, but the Rockies will need to continue being patient and making contact.
