Watch: Chris Rock Details How Porn Affected His Nearly 20-Year Marriage With Malaak Compton-Rock
Chris Rock is thinking about how he could’ve loved his wife better.
The Madagascar star discussed how a porn addiction and infidelity impacted his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock, whom he married in 1996 before their 2016 divorce.
“I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn,” Chris told GQ in an interview published Nov. 3. “I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years.”
The 61-year-old previously spoke on how the issue impacted his split from Malaak—with whom he shares daughters, Lola, 24, and Zahra, 22—in 2018’s Tambourine. During the comedy special, he also confessed to cheating on the entrepreneur, which he looks back on today as a difficult learning lesson.
As he put it, “It’s not anything I’m proud of, but it’s something I had to go through.”
In fact, Chris compared opening up about his marital woes on Netflix to Johnny Cash singing the blues.
Still, the Everybody Hates Chris comedian embraces the difficult time as a part of his story, likening the unfaithfulness to a superhero’s fall from grace in an action movie.
“It’s like you watch a Marvel movie, and the guy, he has to test his powers,” Chris elaborated. “I tested my powers. I definitely realized I wasn’t God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been.”
As such, Chris turned to therapy to help with multiple areas of his life—and the process was admittedly emotional.

“Put it this way: My personal life wasn’t what I wanted it to be,” he continued. “And that’s my relationship with everybody. So yeah, I went in there crying like a b—h. Like, ‘What the f–k is going on?'”
Following the breakup with Malaak, Chris has been romantically linked to actresses Megalyn Echikunwoke and Lake Bell. In 2026, the comic enjoyed public dates with DJ Simone Henault, including Wimbledon and a cozy stroll through New York City during which the couple shared a kiss.
