Watch: Carrie Coon Shares How Her Marriage to Tracey Letts Stays Golden
You don’t just marry a man, you marry a life.
And forCarrie Coon, tying the knot with Tracy Letts was like checking into paradise. The Gilded Age star shared how she and her husband of 13 years struck gold while navigating life as a team.
“Number one is a sense of humor,” Coon exclusively told E! News at the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards Presented by Amazon Fashion on Nov. 2. “You can’t get through any of this, especially with children, without a sense of humor.”
“Number two is you tell the truth,” the 45-year-old—mom to son Haskell, 8, and a 5-year-old daughter with the East of Eden actor—continued. “We started off living in the truth, and that’s the only way to proceed with this much time.”
Though the White Lotus alum and Letts—who met in 2010 while costarring on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in Chicago—celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in September, she playfully added that “it feels like longer.”
Like Bertha Russell, Coon knows being a parent requires thick skin, especially when it comes to comments about her fashion and makeup.
“Right now, they’re at the age where if they see me getting dressed up, or putting on lipstick, or having a fitting, it just means I’m going somewhere,” she explained, “and they’re just already mad about it. So they’re just like, ‘Take that off!'”
And the reception isn’t much warmer when the Gone Girl actress finally returns from a night out.
“I come home and they think I look crazy if I have makeup on because I never wear makeup at home,” she said. “My son always says, ‘You look like a clown! Why don’t you take that off and then we can have a snuggle?'”
But she’s pulled a page from the socialite handbook, simply taking those innocent jabs in stride while still exploring her personal style.
“I would describe my sense of fashion as evolving,” Coon—who stepped out in a strapless blue Theia gown made of fabric from an old French mill for the annual award show—reflected. “I’ve just learned so much, not only from my fittings in The Gilded Age, but as the red carpet has opened wide, and I’ve worked with many different designers in that arena.”
“I learn something new every time,” she added. “The glory of being an actor is that I think we always lead with curiosity. So that’s how I’m approaching a night like this.”
