2027 four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin is ready to make his decision. The 6-foot, 210-pounder has a top three of the LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, and Florida State. Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, he’ll make his decision this Saturday, June 6.
McGaskin is listed as the No. 346 overall recruit and the No. 30 linebacker in the nation according to Rivals’ industry rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 17 prospect in the state of Alabama.

Why does FSU want McGaskin? It’s simple, he’s a tackling machine. He racked up 160 tackles (106 solo), 26 tackles for loss. The Williamson High School star also produced four sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, one interception, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and four blocked punts as a junior.
The pursuit of McGaskin by Florida State goes all the way back to his first visit during his freshman year in October of 2023. He’s been to Tallahassee six or seven times in total, and he mentioned that the entire Seminoles’ staff has been heavily recruiting him during the process.
This would be a major commitment to land for FSU, and especially for linebackers coach Ernie Sims in his first offseason on the job. Florida is looked at as the favorite, but Florida State is looking to snag him despite that, with how long they’ve made him a priority.
