Watch: Alexander Skarsgård Jaw-Dropping Wicker Transformation Will Turn You Into A Basket Case
Alexander Skarsgård has got one wicker new look.
The Emmy winner proved he has the ability to bring sex appeal even as a literal basket in the first trailer for his new movie Wicker. Skarsgård stars as the Wicker Husband made for Olivia Colman’s Fisherwoman, who after years of teasing from her fellow townspeople requests a husband from the town’s Basketmaker (Peter Dinklage).
In the trailer, Skarsgård’s face is fully wicker-ed out, with his entire body also given the same treatment. And obviously, the transformation was one the True Blood actor was fully ready to undertake.
“Most male actors dream of playing Hamlet at some point in their career. I never did,” Skarsgård told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published July 30. “My dream was always to have nipples made out of wicker. Thanks to our wonderful directors, Eleanor [Wilson] and Alex [Huston Fischer], and the brilliant artists at Weta in New Zealand, my dream has finally come true.”
And if the trailer is to be believed, the film promises plenty of perfectly woven sex scenes between Colman and Skarsgård that required a little bit of extra care, with the directors explaining to EW that Skarsgård wicker suit “added to the dynamic.”
“Alex’s performance, while incredibly nuanced and understated, was very technically and physically challenging,” Wilson and Fischer shared, “and it’s really the marriage of the prosthetic and the performance that sells the whole thing.”

And the moment they saw Skarsgård in his full wicker wear, they knew they were on to something, with the duo adding “Once he was walking and talking as the Wicker Husband, we knew the spectacle, the romance, the whole heart of the movie was in safe hands.”
Those safe hands also included Colman, who was wicker-ly excited to take on the role of the Fisherwoman in the film, adapted from the short story “The Wicker Husband” by Ursula Wills-Jones. And while the script certainly spoke to her, seeing Skarsgård after his wicker transformation provided a new level of excitement.

“Alex is funny, intelligent, and beautiful anyway—in the wicker costume, he’s breathtaking,” the Oscar winner explained. “Everything is exaggerated; he’s a work of art. Alex fills the Wicker Husband with a beautiful soul.”
Wicker hits select theaters on Oct. 23 before its wide release on Oct. 30.
Skarsgård isn’t the only star who has had fans doing a double take with a shocking transformation. For more, keep reading.
