Mumbai: Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector officially ended on Tuesday, with the BCCI inviting applications for one position on the senior men’s selection committee.
Agarkar, who took over in July 2023, completed his term on October 4 and did not seek an extension.
Former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha will serve as interim chief selector and chaired the meeting to pick India’s squad for the New Zealand tour.
Agarkar’s tenure was successful on the results front. India reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and won the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup during his time as chief selector.
Meanwhile, PTI reported that BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman will attend all future senior selection panel meetings “to ensure there is no miscommunication between selectors and the COE”.
