Another 49ers season, another potentially season-ending injury for Nick Bosa.
Or at least that is the scenario according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan.
Bosa popped up on the injury report on Thursday with a calf problem. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Chan reported that there’s concern that Bosa has suffered a “serious calf injury” and, if he’s not out for the season, he’ll be out for multiple weeks

Here’s the full quote from Lee Chan:
“Nick Bosa was supposed to talk to us on media day, that was Wednesday. He did not talk to us on Wednesday, then he did not talk to us today, on Thursday. We waited around for him. Knee and calf. It’s not good. I just..it doesn’t feel good. My spidey sense is saying that this is a serious injury for Bosa. If he’s not out for the season, he’s out for multiple weeks.”
The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year missed most of last season due to a torn ACL he suffered in the Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, whom the 49ers will face in their third game of the season this Sunday.
Lee Chan began to backpedal in this tweet:
But Adam Schefter confirmed what she said, tweeting that Bosa will miss a few weeks after pulling his calf in practice on Thursday. Ian Rapoport said Bosa could land on injured reserve.
San Francisco‘s pass rush was non-existent without him in 2025, and any kind of prolonged absence would be a hammer blow to a defensive line that already has very thin depth.

After consistently pressuring Matthew Stafford in the season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers registered four sacks of Malik Willis in their blowout victory against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.
Bosa’s ability to collapse the pocket was a huge part of the latter performance and, if he is out, it will be substantial pressure on a young group to excel without him.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is due to hold his final press conference ahead of the Cardinals at 1:35 PT, about an hour after the 49ers practice. Bosa’s status will be the main talking point as San Francisco gears up for a difficult division game.
Here is the lengthy list of defensive linemen to suffer an injury, just in the past two weeks:

Nick Bosa (calf)
Alfred Collins (torn patellar tendon)
Sam Okuayinonu (broken foot)
James Thompson Jr. (high-ankle sprain)
Romello Height (broken hand)
CJ West (bone chip in knee)
Schefter said the 49ers are leaning toward not placing Bosa on the injured reserve because the team is running out of injured reserve spaces. Week 3 just began. That’s how banged up this team is.
