Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have taken the IPL 2026 season by storm, but the teenage sensation will have to wait a little longer before enjoying one of the biggest rewards from his record-breaking campaign.
The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals star was gifted a brand-new Tata Sierra SUV after sweeping multiple individual awards at the IPL 2026 presentation ceremony. Sooryavanshi finished the tournament as the Orange Cap winner with 776 runs and also took home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Emerging Player of the Season awards.
While the luxury SUV became one of the highlights of the awards night, a humorous reality quickly caught the attention of fans, Sooryavanshi is still too young to legally drive it. Under Indian law, the minimum age required to obtain a driving licence for a private vehicle is 18. As a result, the teenage batting prodigy will have to wait another three years before getting behind the wheel of his prize.
In a video shared by Rajasthan Royals on social media, Sooryavanshi was asked about receiving the car after previously driving only toy vehicles with a remote control. Speaking to RR team manager Romi Bhinder, the youngster gave a candid and light-hearted response.
“3 saal baad tak rakhunga. Abhi to licence aane do, uske baad chalaunga,” Vaibhav Sooryanashi said.
(“I’ll keep it for three years. First let me get my licence, then I’ll drive it.”)
“Papa ko bolunga chalane, bagal mein baithunga,” he added.
(“I’ll ask my father to drive it, and I’ll sit beside him.”)
