Infielder Anthony Volpe made his return to the New York Yankees on Thursday after spending time in the minor leagues. Volpe made a significant impact in New York’s 10-3 win over the Colorado Rockies, as he went 3-4 with five RBI and a grand slam. Former player Todd Frazier shared his thoughts on Volpe on Friday, via Foul Territory.

“You go down to the minor leagues it feels like, for the most part, you’re gonna do well,” Frazier said. “You’re facing pitching that’s not as elite to be honest with you. Triple-A to the big leagues is a big jump… I think it put him at ease a little bit, understandably knowing where he came from, how he started. How big he was and then how low he got in the sense of baseball terms.
“I think it made him calm… He’s still a pretty good baseball player, people don’t really understand. Yeah, you’re in a market where it’s that what have you done lately for me attitude. We were all around it… If you’re not pulling weight, it’s gonna be a big problem.”

Volpe, who is 25 years old, has been unable to meet his lofty early-career expectations up to this point. He was a top prospect when he made his big league debut during the 2023 season. Nevertheless, his future remains bright and Volpe could still break out. Thursday’s performance was a step in the right direction, but it remains to be seen if Anthony Volpe can find consistent success at the MLB level.
