The MLB offseason is already bringing significant changes for the New York Yankees, who have reportedly decided to move on from All-Star second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. after two and a half seasons with the organization.
On Tuesday morning, it was announced that New York would not extend a qualifying offer to Chisholm, allowing the 28-year-old to enter free agency and explore opportunities with other teams.
The decision comes following a disappointing 2026 campaign for the former Silver Slugger, who struggled to produce consistently at the plate despite remaining an important part of the Yankees’ lineup.

Chisholm finished the 2026 regular season with a .231/.312/.711 slash line across 137 games, recording 19 home runs and 55 RBIs.
While those numbers fell short of expectations, his postseason performance also left plenty to be desired.
In four appearances during the 2026 playoffs, Chisholm collected just two hits and two walks in 11 plate appearances. He finished with a .182 batting average and struck out twice as the Yankees looked to make a postseason run.
Despite the disappointing campaign, Chisholm should attract considerable interest on the free-agent market. At just 28 years old, he still offers plenty of potential, along with versatility and power that could appeal to several organizations.

San Francisco could offer Chisholm the chance to split time between the middle infield and center field, potentially giving him a unique role while allowing the team to take advantage of his athleticism.
After two and a half seasons in New York, Chisholm appears headed for a fresh start. Whether he ultimately lands in San Diego, San Francisco or elsewhere, his free-agency decision will be one to watch as teams prepare for the 2027 MLB season.
