Will Wade is going through a challenging phase and a lot of it is his own doing. The new LSU head coach has never been one to take a back seat to controversy, and he seems to have riled up a few people with his recruitment strategy upon his LSU return.
For context, Wade has been using an unusual but potentially highly effective strategy for recruitment, bringing in former NBA players with even an ounce of eligibility left to come to LSU and aid his Championship challenge.

The strategy seems to hinge on the fact that the NCAA might be compelled to allow the players to play despite the past rulings on such situations, forcing many to call out Wade for exploiting the system’s loopholes that have only been expanded under NIL rules.
One such individual is Matt Norlander, who showed Wade the mirror in a recent episode of his podcast with CBS’ Gary Parrish, highlighting how officials might bring up Wade’s troubled past to support their argument that he’s bending the rules a bit too much.
“Get real Will everyone knows what you’re doing and your history precedes what you’re selling us right now and we know what you’re actually about,” Norlander explained.

This isn’t the first time Will Wade is under the scanner at LSU. Infamously, he was fired in 2022 following an NCAA investigation where several Level 1 violations were caught, primarily around his recruitment strategy again, suggesting not much might have changed in four years.
Since then, Wade has rebuilt his coaching career, most recently doing a wonderful job with NC State and eventually reuniting with LSU where he’s again back in the news for the wrong reasons.
