A 19-year-old Russian man was rushed to hospital after a six-hour dispute with his wife ended in a dramatic emergency at their Phuket home. Roman Popov received CPR from rescue workers before being rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital on Tuesday morning. His wife told police she intervened after he repeatedly attempted to harm himself and called for help. Kathu police are now questioning those involved as doctors keep the young Russian under close medical care.
A 19-year-old Russian man was rushed to hospital after a dramatic emergency at his Phuket home on Tuesday morning. Rescue workers performed CPR before racing him to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.
The emergency unfolded at Pruksa Ville Sam Kong village in Kathu district on August 11. Police received the alert at about 10 am through the Kathu Police Station radio centre.
Pol Lt Col Wiriyaphong Srinuanpan, Deputy Investigation Inspector, received the initial report. He was told a foreign man had attempted to harm himself inside a house.
However, people at the property had already intervened and sought help. The emergency then triggered a police and rescue response to the Sam Kong development.
Police identify Russian after wife says early morning argument preceded emergency at Phuket home
Pol Lt Col Wiriyaphong immediately informed Pol Col Chalermchai Hoensawat, Chief of Kathu Police Station. In response, officers headed to 48/105, Soi 4, Moo 5, Kathu subdistrict.
At the house, police found the young man’s wife and began piecing together what had happened. She identified her husband as Roman Popov, 19, a Russian national.
Notably, the emergency followed an argument which had started hours earlier. Popov’s wife told officers the couple began arguing at about 4 am.
The dispute therefore started approximately six hours before police received the emergency notification. During that period, the situation inside the house became more serious. According to his wife, Popov subsequently displayed behaviour indicating repeated attempts to harm himself. She intervened and also sought assistance from other people.
Phuket rescuers perform CPR before rushing 19-year-old Russian man for treatment at Vachira Hospital
As events developed, rescuers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation were summoned to the house. They arrived and immediately began emergency medical treatment.
Crucially, the rescue team performed CPR on Popov at the property. Rescuers then moved the 19-year-old into an ambulance for continued emergency treatment. From there, Popov was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Doctors took over his treatment following his arrival and placed him under close medical care.
In parallel, Kathu police opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the emergency. Officers began questioning those involved and establishing the sequence of events.
The investigation centres on what happened inside the house during Tuesday morning. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the couple’s argument.
Separately, Popov’s wife provided investigators with their initial account of events. She said the dispute had begun at approximately 4 am.
Wife tells police she intervened before rescuers and officers responded to emergency at Sam Kong home
She later witnessed behaviour indicating repeated attempts by her husband to harm himself. At that point, she intervened and sought assistance from others.
Eventually, the situation required an emergency response from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation. Its rescue team provided immediate medical assistance once workers reached the property.
At the scene, rescuers administered CPR before transferring Popov into the ambulance. Emergency treatment continued as preparations were made to take him to hospital.
Meanwhile, police gathered information at the Sam Kong property after being alerted through their radio centre. Officers questioned Popov’s wife as part of their initial inquiries.
As part of this, investigators are working to establish the circumstances preceding the emergency. They are also questioning other people connected with the incident. Police have released no further details about the argument itself. Likewise, the initial report gave no additional information about what caused the dispute.
On the medical front, Popov remained under close care at Vachira Phuket Hospital. Doctors continued providing treatment and assistance following his emergency admission.
