Watch: Kelly Stafford Gets Candid About Daughter’s Behavioral Issues
Kelly Stafford is throwing a flag on the NFL’s schedule.
As the Los Angeles Rams continue to hit the field during the 2026 season, quarterback Matthew Stafford‘s wife sent a pointed message to the league about the team’s calendar.
“Just curious to hear the thought process behind making the Rams the only team in the NFL without a true bye week,” Kelly wrote on her Instagram Stories Nov. 3. “Because damn, after 18 years around this league, even I need a week off during the season… and I have never played a single snap.”
The registered nurse—who shares 9-year-old twin girls Sawyer and Chandler, as well as daughters Hunter, 8, and Tyler, 6, with Matthew—may not be lacing up her cleats, but she knows when a time-out may be needed.
“I’m tired just watching from the stands,” she continued. “Can’t imagine how the guys feel.”
Although teams generally have their bye weeks after a Sunday game and don’t play again for 11 to 14 days, both the Rams and Green Bay Packers—who face off on the day before Thanksgiving (Nov. 25)—will return to the field after 10 days.
Other teams with a bye week at the same time, including the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, will still take a full 14 days off.
E! News has reached out to the NFL for comment and has not yet heard back.
Not every schedule may be a touchdown, but the league does try its best to ensure each team has a restful week off, which is determined by the number of cross-country games scheduled, stadium conflicts and other operational obstacles.
“The scheduling teams aim to balance these operational elements while still trying to maximize fan viewership,” the NFL Operations website explained. “The process is challenging, and there may be no such thing as a perfect schedule, but the schedule makers consistently try to provide the NFL’s fans and broadcast partners with a compelling and entertaining slate of games week after week.”

While Kelly is willing to call a foul on the Rams’ calendar, she will always cheer on her husband, who has been her MVP since they married in 2015.
“He is the softest, most patient man,” she told E! News in 2022. “My dad always said one of the most important relationships in life is a father-daughter relationship just because of the confidence your dad can give you.”
“I am so grateful that I ended up with Matthew,” she added, “because he sets such an incredible example as to the partner they should want to be with.”
