High school football season is back, with numerous top teams around the country opening their 2026 campaigns this weekend.

Among the high-profile interstate matchups on tap is a showdown between Georgia power Creekside, which is ranked 21st nationally by MaxPreps, and Alabama’s Clay-Chalkville, ranked 52nd. Both schools won state championships last season.
Creekside went 15-0 and took the 4A title last year. The Seminoles will look to build on that triumph by moving up two divisions to 6A and opening with tough games against Clay-Chalkville and New Jersey’s St. Joseph Regional. Creekside’s top players to watch on a roster with multiple D1 commits include four-star running back Gary Walker (Clemson) and three-star corner Darrius White (Alabama)
Clay-Chalkville also won all 15 games and brought home the AHSAA 6A trophy for the third time in five years, and its season-opening schedule is just as robust. Next week, the Cougars travel to face two-time defending 7A champion Thompson in a matchup of the top two teams in Alabama. Four-star edge Keith Richmond (Arkansas) and three-star DJ Williams (uncommitted) lead a stout defense for the Cougars.
