Kansas baseball is hosting a NCAA regional this week in Lawrence, and will be doing so as the No. 15 team in the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Jayhawks (42-16) rose up one spot in the latest update of the top 25 on Monday. They did so after winning the Big 12 Conference tournament title this past weekend in Surprise, Arizona. With that championship, KU swept both the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles.

Elsewhere in the Big 12 are No. 11 West Virginia, No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Arizona State. West Virginia is the team that KU beat in the finals of the Big 12 tournament, and Oklahoma State the team KU beat in the semifinals. That run the Jayhawks went on in the Big 12 tournament certainly helped solidify the team’s place as a regional host.
KU’s first NCAA regional game will be Friday, May 29 at noon (CT) against Northeastern. Also in the regional are Arkansas and Missouri State. The Jayhawks’ alterations to Hoglund Ballpark to maximize capacity and enhance fan experience will get their first test in the days to come.
