Texas A&M baseball (27–7, 9–5 SEC) bounced back from its midweek stumble with a rivalry‑series statement, taking both games from No. 2 Texas in the Lone Star Showdown before Game 3 was washed out.
Midweek matchups are always unpredictable, especially against quality opponents, and the Aggies entered the week thin on pitching. Usual midweek starter Gavin Lyons has shifted into a weekend relief role, pushing true freshman Cole Hubert into that spot. Texas State took advantage, edging A&M 9–8 and returning the favor from their earlier meeting.

That loss added some tension heading into rivalry week. The biggest question was could the Aggie pitching staff hold up against a Texas lineup loaded with talent? Game 1 got shaky at times, but A&M outlasted the Longhorns for a 9–8 win. Offensively, the Aggies continued their recent surge, and in Game 2 they exploded for an eight‑run first inning to seize control early.
The pitching matched the moment, allowing just four runs on seven hits, three of them solo homers and one on an error. After a long rain delay, A&M tacked on three more runs and closed out an 11–4 win, totaling 20 runs across the two‑game set. It marked the most runs Texas has allowed in any series this season, despite playing only two games.
A&M is clearly finding its rhythm, and this week showed what the Aggies look like when they put together a complete performance. With the offense rolling and the pitching stabilizing, they’re not just positioning themselves as a regional host, a top‑eight national seed is now firmly in view if they maintain this pace.
