Mike Elko and Texas A&M football will try to maintain their winning ways in September on Saturday.
The Aggies are 9-0 in the month under Elko with a 3-0 mark against SEC foes. This week, they’ll see another conference rival: the Kentucky Wildcats.
Since A&M entered the conference in 2012, the Aggies have played the Wildcats just one time in football. That was 2018, when Kellen Mond and A&M upset No. 13 Kentucky team in overtime 20-14. Unlike that meeting, the ninth-ranked Aggies will be heavily favored when the teams meet to open A&M’s SEC slate (the Wildcats already started conference play with a loss last week to Alabama).

Kentucky (1-1) is led by new head coach Will Stein, who’s coached at UTSA, Texas and Austin high school Lake Travis, and quarterback Kenny Minchey. Texas A&M (2-0) is in its third season under Elko, the former Duke head coach, and its second full season with Marcel Reed at quarterback. A&M beat Arizona State and Missouri State by a combined score of 98-20.

Kirk Bohls, Houston Chronicle: Oh, the Wildcats could score, but the Aggies defense has been overwhelming so far. It scored on a pair of pick-sixes last week against Arizona State. Remember, Alabama outscored Kentucky 32-0 in the second half. I see A&M winning 28-14.
