The sun has emerged. Warmth and longer days are beckoning. But peering inside your closet, you might find yourself at a loss.
“Seasonal changes often create a sense of urgency to reinvent ourselves. After a long winter, there’s a natural desire to shed heavy, worn-in layers and step into something new,” said Georgia Milton, a personal stylist.
Rather than scroll for hours in search of spring outfit inspiration, we asked 15 stylists for their best advice. They’ve dressed everyone from celebrities including Ashley Graham to professional athletes and female executives. They, and other Guardian experts, have shared 45 top buys to revamp your spring style for under $200. We also have a few higher-range recommendations at the end.
“Where people tend to get stuck is panic-buying whatever feels trendy, thinking it will magically transform them into a new version of themselves,” Milton added.
By contrast, the items we’re highlighting are not random or impulsive; there’s a styling tip or guideline behind every piece, including adding personality to your look with chunky bracelets and investing in wardrobe staples such as a linen pant or timeless white tee. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try swapping a classic denim jacket for a funkier silhouette or rocking a brooch made of feathers.
Elevate with a cashmere sweater:
Quince Mongolian Cashmere Tee

One of the easiest ways to transition your wardrobe is by layering a lightweight cashmere tee under a blazer, bomber jacket, or raincoat. It gives you warmth without bulk, and it can instantly elevate your look. I recommend brands including Quince for accessible, high-quality cashmere basics. Their cashmere tee is a great everyday option. Elisa Ellis, wardrobe stylist who helps professionals dress for work
A polished sandal so your feet can breathe:
Easy Spirit Gretty Fisherman Sandals

These comfy sandals were recommended by Danielle Renwick, the Guardian US director of partnerships, in our roundup of the best women’s shoes for the office. “The extra coverage compared with my strappier sandals makes them a good transitional shoe during the warm days of spring and autumn when my unpedicured feet long to breathe,” she wrote.
Put a twist on a denim jacket:
Gap Oversized Denim Bomber Jacket

This spring, you’ll see a lot of denim jackets, but not the traditional style we’ve worn for decades. The new denim jacket has interesting details including puffed sleeves, a balloon hem or a funnel neckline. This Gap denim bomber incorporates many of the latest trends in denim jackets while being just as versatile as your classic denim one. Alison Gary, stylist and creator of Wardrobe Oxygen, with a focus on dressing women over 40
Flip-flops with a touch of height:
Zara Leather Strap Heeled Sandals

What began as a breakout trend last year comes into its own this season, thanks to its effortless wearability. The heeled flip-flop slips seamlessly into a spring wardrobe, grounding everything from relaxed denim to flowing bohemian maxis, and even lending a modern, pared-back edge to the classic little black dress. Andrea Wong, fashion stylist who worked on Crazy Rich Asians and the former editor-in-chief of Elle Malaysia

Asymmetrical tops:
Aritzia Nominee Satin Blouse

Something else that is having a moment is asymmetry and soft draping in tops, dresses and skirts. These pieces add visual interest in a refined way. Georgia Milton, Nashville-based personal stylist
‘A hint of lace’:
Wilfred Serif Satin Camisole

Spring 2026 has a feminine touch, and the easiest way to add it to your existing closet is with a hint of lace. A lace-trimmed camisole in silk or ribbed knit is the perfect piece to layer under lightweight sweaters or slip under blazers and cardigans. This cami from Aritzia has a square neckline and adjustable straps so you can customize the depth of the neckline. Alison Gary
‘Weird green is having a moment’:
Allie Organic Cotton Rib Collar Top

“This rib-collar top will work nicely with chocolate-coloured trousers,” says Melanie Wilkinson, the Guardian’s styling editor.
Mix it up with ballet-inspired sneakers:
Cos Suede Nylon Ballet Sneakers

Another recommendation from our Filter UK friends is for these ballet-inspired sneakers: “It’s early days but a slimline jazz trainer is gearing up to be the style of the summer. The suede v silky texture on these from Cos makes them look much more high-end,” wrote Wilkinson.
‘A good lightweight pant’:
Abercrombie Linen Blend Pull-on Pant

A piece I’d invest in is a good linen pant. Not everyone likes to wear shorts in the summertime, so having that good-quality lightweight pant that you can pair with cardigans [is important]. You can style it with tanks or cardigans. Kenzie Welch, fashion stylist with 15 years of experience

Make a statement on a warm day:
Heaven Mayhem Julia Necklace

When it gets to those hotter months where all you want to wear is a T-shirt and shorts, amplify the look using accessories over layers: a statement necklace, a cool bag, an interesting hairstyle can all elevate a simple outfit. I love this statement necklace. Molly Ashman, commercial and sportswear stylist who’s worked with companies such as Nike and Adidas, and soccer clubs including Arsenal
Experiment with suede:
Free People We The Free Suzy Suede Midi Skirt

Experiment with materials over prints: linens, chiffons, suede. I much prefer mixing materials to mixing patterns. Molly Ashman
Wear a scarf:
Cos Polka-Dot Silk Scarf

Scarves are a huge trend this year, and they are the perfect versatile accessory that can be used around your neck, in your hair, on your bag or even as a belt. I highly recommend adding scarves to your closet. Samantha Dawn, personal stylist who dresses female leaders and executives
Try a funnel-neck jacket:
By Anthropologie Funnel-Neck Utility Jacket

One trend I’m really drawn to right now is the funnel-neck jacket. It’s incredibly versatile and doesn’t feel overly time-stamped, which means it can evolve with your wardrobe over time. Georgia Milton
Personalize your jewelry:
Roxane Assoulin Super Size Happy Cord Necklace

Stack different-sized pieces, metals and materials and even customized jewelry to add intentional self-expression to your look. Erin Watton, personal stylist, personal shopper and closet organizer
‘Fit is everything’:
Cuts Clothing Almost Friday Tee

With simple pieces such as basic tees, fit is everything. A well-fitting tee does not need to be tucked in but rather lands right below your waistband. This allows you to feel casual and comfortable while still polished. Erin Watton

Choose tailored denim:
Good American Soft Tech Good True Straight Jeans

Denim is becoming less baggy and more tailored, so opt for straight, bootcut or flare jeans if you’re not into higher-volume pants. Samantha Dawn
Accessorize with a pendant necklace:
Madewell Sculptural Pendant Cord Necklace

I’m seeing a strong shift toward bold, statement jewelry, particularly chunky pieces or long pendant necklaces. They create an immediate focal point and can transform even the simplest outfit into something more intentional and cool. Georgia Milton
Layer with knits:
Intimissimi Boat Neck Modal Cashmere Ultralight Top

Layering your thinner pieces for a slightly colder spring is your new best friend. My favorite long sleeve is this super soft cashmere one from Intimissimi. Molly Ashman
‘Picking only gold or silver? That’s old news’:
Heaven Mayhem Baby Knot Mixed Earrings

Mixing metals looks way cooler and feels more relaxed and somehow also more polished. Des Awofeso, style strategist and content creator sharing styling advice to an audience of more than 100,000 on TikTok
Upgrade your neutrals:
Quince Italian Leather Trapeze Crossbody

Instead of sticking to flat black or basic beige, try shades such as mocha, taupe, sage, stone or dove grey. It makes your outfits feel softer, richer and less boring. And these hues layer together without clashing or fading into the background. Des Awofeso
Ditch bulky coats for a thermal:
Uniqlo Heat Tech Cashmere Blend T-Shirt

If you have a good thermal, you can leave the coat at home. My favorite is from Uniqlo. Molly Ashman
‘Show a hint of skin (strategically)’:
Stems Wild Flower Lace Mesh Tights

A little skin equals instant lightness without sacrificing warmth. Nikko Smith, wardrobe stylist and creator of The Body Type Blueprint

A relaxed trouser:
Wilfred Lodge Pant

I encourage people to move away from defaulting to workout wear in non-active settings. It may feel like the easiest option, but getting dressed in “real clothes” can be just as effortless with a small mindset shift. A lightweight sweater, relaxed drawstring trousers, and a loafer or elevated sneaker can feel just as comfortable but far more pulled together. Georgia Milton
Six ways to wear a triangle scarf:
TbCo Merino Wool Triangle Scarf

I recommended this tip for an easy way to elevate your spring wardrobe, especially when its still chilly outside. A few of my styling suggestions include wearing it as a hair scarf and around your waist for a fun pop of color.
Colors to ‘conquer the world’:
J Crew Factory Linen-Blend Button-Front Vest

Colors that make you smile and give you energy, whether it’s a butter yellow that feels like sunshine or a bold red, make you feel like you can conquer the world. Right now, J Crew Factory has a fun linen vest. A new piece in a new color can instantly refresh your old pieces without overhauling your wardrobe. Elisa Ellis
Wear chunkier bracelets:
Madewell Sculptural Resin Bangle Bracelet Set

Spring is the best time to play with accessories because we’re showing more skin, so adorn your arm with chunky resin bracelets, which are super trendy right now. Fatiyha Johnson, stylist who’s worked for brands including New Balance and athletes such as Maya Moore
Play with fabric:
Aqua Bendita Axel Shirt

Texture is an underrated way to make outfits feel seasonally appropriate without overthinking it. Linen, crochet and open-knit pieces read as warm-weather dressing instantly – and they’re practical because they breathe. Cassandra Sethi, personal stylist and founder of the personal styling company Next Level Wardrobe
A demure square scarf:
SilkSilky Square Scarf

Sometimes it just takes a scarf, a cool brooch or one wild print to make your usual clothes feel new again. After so many seasons of quiet solids, these little touches actually say a lot – they let your style have some personality. Des Awofeso

‘Bring to life old bottoms’:
ZW Collection Asymmetric Cape Top

Look for new tops to bring life to old bottoms and make them feel new and exciting again. Tops with texture, interesting lines and silhouettes will make any simple pair of jeans or bottoms that much more interesting. Fatiyha Johnson
Incorporate pops of color with a purse:
J Crew Berkeley Small Shoulder Bag

This spring, you will see a lot of unusual color combinations: mango and ice blue, blush pink with acid green or yellow with khaki. An easy way to achieve this is by buying a statement bag in a color that is nowhere else in your closet. The Berkeley Small Shoulder Bag from J Crew comes in some of the hottest “pop” colors this season. Alison Gary
Rock a midi skirt:
Peachy Den Deba Seersucker Midi Skirt

This recommendation comes from our holiday gift guide and was recommended by content creator Kate Glavan. This skirt’s lighter material and fun color selections make it a great candidate for a transition piece. “This skirt has become a staple in my wardrobe because the silhouette is so flattering. Long skirts can be intimidating to style, but I find this one never fails because of the flowy design,” she said.
Edge up your sneakers:
Salomon XT-Whisper Sneakers

I recently recommended these Gorp Core-inspired sneakers from Salomon. I wrote – and still stand by this – that “their quick-lace system means they take seconds to throw on while rushing out the door. And the intricate design, including silver detailing and shiny finishes throughout, has convinced me that sneakers can look polished enough for the office.”
A belt ‘completes an outfit’:
B-Low the Belt Milla Women’s Leather Belt

Even if you do a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, adding a belt completes an outfit. Styling is really about adding personality to the outfit. Kenzie Welch

Embrace your inner runner:
Nike Oversized Lightweight Taffeta UV Track Jacket

Pair jackets such as funnel necks, trench coats or track styles with your spring outfits. You can layer these over a dress or skirt. Samantha Dawn
Upgrade your athleisure:
Adidas Originals Firebird Adilenium Track Pants

Athleisure isn’t going anywhere – but basic athleisure should be. You could focus on matching sets, or a cleaner, structured fit. Nikko Smith
A boot that makes a statement:
Steve Madden Mavis Black Suede Boots

These are my new work shoes by Steve Madden. They were my favorites back in the day and I still love them. These also meet the standards of my disability fashion styling system, and they’re super comfy too. Stephanie Thomas, fashion stylist with a focus on dressing people with disabilities and chronic illnesses
‘Soften’ your tailored pieces:
Everlane Oversized Blazer in Stretch Linen

Spring is perfect for tailoring that doesn’t feel stuffy. Forget stiff blazers; now it’s about things like cropped trench coats and tailored shorts: structured but easy. Des Awofeso

A brooch to ‘change the feel of a basic outfit’:
Tuckernuck Black Embellished Feather Floral Pin

A printed scarf worn around your neck, waist or belt loop or on the handle of your bag; a new belt; or a brooch can completely change the feel of a basic outfit. Elisa Ellis
‘Tie a sweater around your shoulders’:
Alex Mill Nico Chunky Cardigan

Layer like it’s your job. It’s a key element for spring from a fashion sense and from a practical sense. Layering adds interest to an outfit, and it allows you to face the changing temperatures like a pro. Hallie Abrams, founder and lead stylist for The Wardrobe Consultant
… Or a button-up over a tank:
Quince 100% Organic Cotton Poplin Long Sleeve Shirt

You can also wear a button-up open over a tank or tied at your waist. These layering pieces are an easy way to add color, texture or pattern to your outfits too. Hallie Abrams
Embrace the rain with a clear umbrella:
Totes Bubble Umbrella

In our rainy day styling guide, Liz Teich, a personal stylist who has dressed celebrities, recommended carrying a clear umbrella. “It’s nice because it doesn’t clash with your outfit,” she said.

‘Lighten it up!’:
Le Bop Drew Pants

Spring is the one season where black is not acceptable to wear. Lighten it up! The easiest entry point is a single colored piece: a top, a bag, a sandal – that ties back to a core color (white, or gray specifically). Cassandra Sethi
‘Clean up’ your jeans:
Pistola Denim Lexi Mid-Rise Bowed Straight Jean

A clean pair will help refresh your spring looks. Fewer rips will give you more outfit possibilities as they can then be dressed up or down. Hallie Abrams
‘Bold primary colors are in’:
Hanifa Niyah Tank Top

Pair the single bold-colored item with pieces you already own, creating new and fresh looks this spring. For example, style the bold-colored top with jeans, giving new life to your favorite pair of denim.Fatiyha Johnson
Elevate your raincoat:
Kuhl Stretch Voyagr Jacket

In our roundup of the best rain jackets, Heather Balogh Rochfort, a Filter US contributor, recommended this option for staying stylish and dry, praising “its lightly cinched waist that gives you a snatched look without feeling like a stuffed sausage”.
Spring stylist picks above $200
‘Add a varsity edge’:
Longchamp Polo Shirt

Try reframing athletic pieces with a more fashion-forward sensibility. A sporty jacket takes on new life when worn as a top, tucked neatly into sleek stirrup pants and finished with sharp pointed-toe pumps. Elsewhere, the classic striped rugby shirt, spotted on cool kids Hailey Bieber and Yerin Ha, lends a varsity edge to micro minis. Style it with knee-high boots for a polished finish or socks and sneakers for laid-back vibes.Andrea Wong
A barn jacket adds ‘dimension’:
Aligne Mavis Reversible Check Jacket

For spring days, you will need to layer for cooler mornings and nights. Instead of defaulting to denim and leather jackets, switch things up with structured pieces like cropped trench coats or barn jackets. Erin Watton
‘Stack with intent, and don’t hold back’:
Dinosaur Designs Polished Organic Ball Necklace

Baubles are back, baby, so consider this your cue to resurrect those supersized orb strands from the early noughties. In 2026, the mood is firmly “more is more” Lean into the excess by layering necklaces of different lengths in riotous colorways. Stack with intent and don’t hold back. Andrea Wong
