Weedwacker-wielding Amish woman fends off alleged kidnapper

SADSBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (TCN) — A 26-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and related counts after allegedly approaching a woman who was trimming her weeds and attempting to kidnap her at knifepoint.
Lancaster Online reports that on the afternoon of Oct. 14, a 23-year-old woman was working in her yard with a motorized weed trimmer when Junior Jose Davila-Moran allegedly approached her, holding a pair of handcuffs and a serrated knife. He allegedly demanded that she put on the handcuffs, and the victim then screamed and stepped forward with the weed trimmer. Davila-Moran allegedly fled the scene.
PennLive reports that the woman, who is Amish, went to a neighbor’s house to call 911, but due to poor cell service, police only got a silent call and no one answered when she called back. The victim was interviewed by police later that night.
Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s camera allegedly showed the truck Davila-Moran was driving. The victim, who said she had never seen Davila-Moran prior to the alleged incident, then identified his photo out of a police lineup. Lancaster Online reports she said, “This photograph makes me tremble.”
Davila-Moran was apprehended at his father’s home on Oct. 16 and the handcuffs were allegedly found in his truck, according to Lancaster Online.
PennLive reports Davila-Moran was charged Oct. 16 with two counts of felony kidnapping and misdemeanor charges of false imprisonment, simple assault, possession of an instrument of a crime, and making terroristic threats.
