Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticized United States President Donald Trump for his remarks regarding Pope Leo XIV.
Pezeshkian expressed his disapproval of Trump’s comments about the Pope “on behalf of the esteemed nation of Iran”.
He further stated that the disrespect towards “Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood,” is unacceptable to “any individual who values freedom”.
This statement follows Trump’s criticism of the Pope on Truth Social, where he labeled him as “weak on crime” and “detrimental to foreign policy”.
Trump remarked, “I do not desire a Pope who believes it is acceptable for Iran to possess a Nuclear Weapon. I do not want a Pope who considers it wrong that America intervened in Venezuela, a nation that was exporting significant quantities of drugs into the United States and, even more alarmingly, releasing their prisoners, including murderers, drug traffickers, and violent offenders, into our nation.”
In the meantime, the US has initiated a blockade on Iranian ports. The US Central Command announced that it would commence a blockade of all Iranian Gulf ports and coastal regions on Monday, indicating that the operation should have already started.
Maritime personnel and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations have been alerted that the blockade will affect all vessel movements, irrespective of their flag.
