It’s time to vote for The Tuscaloosa News Boys Athlete of the Week from April 25 to May 1.
Last round’s winner was Southern Academy pitcher Wyatt Martin, who won 77.56% of the vote for throwing a no-hitter in a 10-0 win against Heritage Christian. In six innings pitched, Martin struck out 10 batters, walked three and allowed no hits and no runs. The win came in the championship game of the Edgewood Academy Tournament.

Nominees for Athlete of the Week come from our top performers list the week before. Any sport in the Tuscaloosa area can nominate for the top performers list and, in turn, our Athlete of the Week. Coaches and team stat keepers can send in stats to nominate players to sports@tuscaloosanews.com by 10:30 p.m. the night of their game.

American Christian Academy’s Drew Jackson pitched six innings in the Patriots’ AHSAA playoff series win over Russellville. Jackson only allowed one hit and one earned run, while striking out 11 batters. He went 2-for-5 at the plate in the series.

Gordo’s Collin Pate went 1-for-3 with three RBIs in the Greenwave’s AHSAA playoff series win over Glencoe.

Hubbertville’s Landon Dodd threw a complete game in the Lions’ AHSAA playoff series win over Spring Garden. Dodd allowed one earned run and struck out five batters. From the plate, Dodd went 4-for-8 with two RBIs in the series.

Tuscaloosa Academy’s Harwood Beeker threw a complete game in the Knights’ AHSAA playoff series win over Highland Home. Beeker blanked Highland Home, allowing one hit and striking out nine batters.

Tuscaloosa County’s Tate Pettus pitched a complete game in the Wildcats’ first matchup of their AHSAA playoff series win over Grissom. Pettus blanked Grissom, only allowing three hits and striking out eight batters.
