BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Tech Hokies improved to 3-0 on the season with a 35-26 road win over Maryland, marking the first time since 2017 the Hokies have started the
season 3-0. It was the Hokies’ first non-conference victory over a Power 4 team since beating West Virginia to open the 2017 season. Tech will hit the road for the second straight week for its ACC opener at Boston College Saturday at noon. The Hokies lead the overall series 22-11, winning three straight and four of the last five against the Eagles. It’s the fifth time Tech has kicked off ACC play against the Eagles, joining the 2010, 2016, 2019 and 2022 teams, who went 3-1 in those contests.
Head Coach James Franklin served two seasons alongside Bill O’Brien on Ralph Friedgen’s staff at the University of Maryland (2003 & 2004). Franklin coached wide receivers while O’Brien coached running backs. Their careers later intersected again when both served as head coach at Penn State, with Franklin succeeding O’Brien in 2014. Saturday’s game will be their first meeting as head coaches.
