Bong Joon Ho’s debut animated film, Ally, has announced a star-studded voice cast, including Vancouver’s Finn Wolfhard.

The Stranger Things star is joining Hollywood heavyweights Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, and Werner Herzog in the Oscar and Cannes Palme d’Or-winning Korean writer-director’s 3D-animated family adventure.

Scheduled for a 2027 release, the film also includes newcomer Alex Jayne Go who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is a good bet to voicing the title role.

Co-written by Parasite director Ho with Jason Yu, the film revolves around Ally, a curious piglet squid living in the depths of the South Pacific Ocean, who dreams of seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary.

Ally’s world gets interesting and dangerous when a mysterious aircraft sinks into the ocean. The event leads Ally and her colourful and loyal companions on a journey to the surface. There is no word on the casting of each character.

The casting announcement comes just days after Wolfhard made his Met Gala debut sporting a custom Thom Browne fit that combined black wool and white silk faille featuring hand-painted textures, white-on-white appliqués, and a utility skirt belt.

Wolfhard has been going strong since Stranger Things concluded on Christmas Day last year. Right after that he hosted Saturday Night Live on Jan. 17, 2026. And this spring, he showed up in the Vancouver-shot Malcom in the Middle TV series reboot.

When he’s not acting or walking fancy red carpets Wolfhard, who is one of the investors that helped save the Park Theatre in Vancouver, is making music.

Fans of that part of Wolfhard’s creative life can see him in action when he brings The Common Side Effects Tour to Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on Oct. 20. The tour, which kicks off in July 17 in Washington, D.C., is in support of Wolfhard’s upcoming solo album Fire From The Hip, set for release on July 10. Wolfhard recently previewed the record with the single, I’ll Let You Finish.
