The circumstances around United States World Cup soccer drama has some on the internet recalling a specific Green Bay Packers lowlight.
Team USA will square off against Belgium in Seattle on Monday night, July 6 (7 p.m. CT), in the midst of a controversy over a red card issued to star forward Folarin Balogun in USA’s win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1.

The red card levied against Balogun in the win typically comes attached with a suspension from the next game, but FIFA suspended that decision, and there’s no shortage of pushback from Belgium.
News that U.S. president Donald Trump lobbied FIFA to review the case only further enflamed the controversy.

In one of the most-discussed referee-related blunders this century, the Seattle Seahawks were credited with a 14-12 win over the Packers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 3 of the 2012 season thanks to a touchdown pass by Russell Wilson to Golden Tate on the final play of the game.
The game took place at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, now known as Lumen Field and the site where the USA-Belgium game will take place. It also happened during a time when the NFL and its regular on-field officials were in the middle of a lockout.
