On Saturday evening, the USC football team suffered an embarrassing 24-7 road loss to Wisconsin. With the defeat, the Trojans dropped to 6-2 on the year and 3-2 in Big Ten play.
While it was an awful performance all around by the Trojans, it was a particularly brutal night for USC’s offense. The Trojans scored just seven points—the program’s fewest in a game in more than eight years, and the fewest ever in Lincoln Riley’s career as a head coach.

The last time that USC scored fewer than seven points in a game came back in 2018 in a loss at Stanford. In that matchup, the Trojans were led by head coach Clay Helton, offensive coordinator Tee Martin, and a starting quarterback who was supposed to still be in high school.
Against Wisconsin, they managed just one touchdown with a fifth-year senior QB and one of the best offensive minds in the sport.
USC has had plenty of struggles over the past five years under Riley. However, the offense being able to score points has been one of the few positive constants. The fact that it was not this past week is very concerning.
