Former United States President Barack Obama has reacted to the Democratic Party’s victory over President Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the just-concluded midterm elections.
In a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday, Obama said the election outcome reflected Americans’ desire for political leaders who prioritise unity, practical solutions and public service rather than division.
He congratulated Democratic candidates who secured victories across different parts of the country, including traditionally Republican strongholds.
He noted that the Democrats’ success was driven by candidates from diverse backgrounds who shared a commitment to representing their constituents and serving the public.
“The American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face,” Obama said.
DAILY POST reports that Democrats seized control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections, dealing a major blow to Trump’s administration.
Trump had earlier congratulated the Democrats on their victory but maintained that the outcome did not mean Americans had rejected his leadership.
According to him, Republicans lost because Americans were unwilling to pay higher prices for gasoline amid the Iran war.
